Machine learning is used in many applications, from speech recognition to autonomous driving, machine translation and product recommendation.
The different types of machine learning
There are three main types of machine learning: supervised learning, unsupervised learning and reinforcement learning.
Supervised learning is the most classic type. This is an algorithm that is trained on labeled data, that is, with example data accompanied by their expected results. The algorithm uses these examples to learn how to predict results for new data. For example, detecting an object in an image.
Unsupervised learning, on the other hand, tries to extract information from raw data without knowing its label. An example of this type of learning is a recommendation system.
Finally we have reinforcement learning which is a type of machine learning in which the algorithm is trained from unlabeled data, but which receives rewards or penalties based on their actions. The algorithm uses these rewards and penalties to learn how to make the most effective decisions to achieve a given goal. An example would be training a robot.
